VANILLA CUSTARD

         
 

Ingredients:

 

Method:

 
         
 
  • 300 mL of milk

  • 1 tablespoon of custard powder

  • 1/2 tablespoon of sugar 

  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla essence

 

 

 

 
  1. Combine custard powder with 1/4 cup of milk and form into a smooth paste.

  2. Boil remaining milk. 

  3. Add paste to heated milk and stir until thick.

  4. Remove from heat.

  5. Add vanilla essence.

  6. Serve custard alone or pour over cake, fruit etc.

 
 

BAKED CUSTARD

         
 

Ingredients:

 

Method:

 
         
 
  • 1 egg

  • 3 drops of vanilla

  • 1 tablespoon of sugar

  • 1 cup of milk

  •  

  Note:
  Most fruits in season can be
  used to make fruit salad.

 
  1. Wash fruit and peel fruit.

  2. Chop fruit into bite size pieces.

  3. Place chopped fruit in a large and gently mix.

  4. Eat immediately.

  5. Optional extras - icecream, cream, yoghurt or custard poured on top of the fruit can be delicious.

 

 
 

CREAMED RICE

         
 

Ingredients:

 

Method:

 
         
 
  • 2 tablespoons of rice

  • 1/2 cup of water

  • 1 tablespoon of sugar 

  • nutmeg

  • 1 cup of milk

  • 1 teaspoon of butter

 

 

 

 
  1. Pour water into a large saucepan and bring water to the boil.

  2. Reduce heat and add rice. 

  3. Cook rice until the water has absorbed (stir regularly).

  4. Add milk and stir.

  5. Add sugar and margarine and stir.

  6. Stir continually until mixture boils.

  7. Reduce heat and cook for 30 minutes.

  8. Sprinkle with nutmeg.

 
 

RICE CUSTARD

         
 

Ingredients:

 

Method:

 
         
 
  • 2 tablespoons of rice

  • 1/4 cup of water

  • 3 eggs

  • 3 teaspoons of sugar

  • 1/3 cup of milk

  • nutmeg

 

 
  1. Wash rice with water.

  2. Cooked rice until tender.

  3. Beat eggs in a large bowl.

  4. Add milk and sugar.

  5. Stir in cooked rice.

  6. Put mixture in a greased oven dish.

  7. Sprinkle with nutmeg.

  8. Bake in a moderate oven until rice custard is set.

 

 
 

APPLE CRUMBLE

         
 

Ingredients:

 

Method:

 
         
 
  • 400g tin of cooked apples

  • 60g melted butter

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats

  • 1/4 cup plain flour

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup desiccated coconut

  • pinch of cinnamon

  • ice-cream or custard optional 

 

 
  1. Open tin of apples and spread apple in a shallow microwave proof pie dish.

  2. Mix dry ingredients together in a large bowl.

  3. Melt butter and add to dry ingredients.

  4. Spread evenly on top of apples.

  5. Cook in microwave for approximately 5 minutes.

  6. Remove from microwave and allow to cool slightly.

  7. Serve alone or with ice-cream or custard.
